The years following World War II brought renewed growth. Now debt free, Presbyterian College regained full accreditation in , and enrollment approached five hundred. Under the presidency of Marshall Brown — the physical plant was expanded to accommodate larger enrollments, the endowment substantially increased, and the academic program modernized.
In , during the presidency of Marc Weersing — , Presbyterian College began admitting women as residential students. From its inception the college had welcomed women, but only as commuting students. Presbyterian College otherwise known as PC was founded in by Dr. William Plumer Jacobs. Jacobs arrived in Clinton, South Carolina in , following the devastation of the Civil War, and he dreamed of building an orphanage in the area.
In October of , Thornwell Orphanage opened its doors to 10 orphaned children. Five years after establishing the orphanage, Dr. Jacobs was faced with another challenge; sending those children to a proper college to continue their education. Founded in by Dr. William Plumer Jacobs, Presbyterian College has been offering challenging academics and a culture of honor, ethics and service that prepares students to be leaders in communities.
