Near the end, was the scariest, worst experience I have ever had with around ten, extremely huge, tall horned buffalo with young that completely circled my car in an aggressive manner to protect their young, and eat the food. It was one of the scariest moments in my life. Also, many animlas looked and seemed malnourished and abused. After we got through the trail, we went to the petting zoo, where the bird cages were full of filth and feathers.
Most of the signs were wrong on the cages, and the gift shop woman was very rude as well. They had no food or snacks or cider. At first, I thought this was cool and a great premice, until my vehicle, animals, and even my own life was potentially at risk.
Here's an idea Make sure to STATE that animals may damage vehicles and get trained animal people on the trail in case something happens. They put their own animals at risk by people possibly running over them! They really need to put up a fence around the entire thing and allow it to be walked, so everyone could still feed and see the animals up close, but not feel threatened or have their vehicle damaged.
Or, have it be mandatory that it is a wagon ride only trail that costs the same money, and not more. This could be such a great experience if it was executed properly. Also, hire a new. Both people yesterday were rude! How can people be rude that work there when it is a peaceful, quiet, and easy job! This was such a terrible experience. I will never go back and will be sure not to recommend this to anyone!
Seeing the animals was great, seeing them be mistreated was not. It reminded me of a place that looks great on the out side and no telling what goes no with the animals "behind closed doors" Those that say the customer service was bad belive them, because it is - If you can not resist going, PLEASE pay close attention to how the animals are treated if you notice anything that looks suspicious report it. We saw a staff member throw a large rock at a horse in the stables as it was walking away from her and the rock hit the horse.
The staff memeber appeared to be angry at everything - she never smiled once and was not kind to any of the horses. There was a new born fawn near a rock, by the buffalo, which is pretty far from the water buffalo, but the tour guide kid said the water buffalo had tried to attack the baby and it had just been born that morning.
The Mom of the fawn was no place to be seen and the baby was out exposed in the open of lots of large animals with no defense. Yes, there are a lot of animals and yes it is fun to see them. BUT if the enjoyment of viewing or the oppurtunity to touch an animal is at the cost of the well being of the animals I would not recommend it. Think twice about supporting a company that the reviews are great until it comes to the staff -- I did notice you hardly see staff, what you see is animals and there is probably a good reason for that, their mean yes I experinced that in the gift shop, when I reported the cruielty to the horses, the 2 staff members there could have cared less about the horse, or what we saw and if they are mean to the paying customers chances are they are mean to the animals.
We made the drive from Lenoir yesterday and it was totally worth it. We paid 11 each at the gate and also purchased 2 buckets of food. We went in our Jeep which made this drive through animal ranch absolutely fantastic.
At the very front gate the most aggressive animals hang out. They just know people mean more food. They are real animals so be careful with your bucket of food. I saw a few buckets are on the ground and I can only assume it was from someone holding the bucket for the animal to eat and it got knocked or pulled outbid their hands.
We actually had extra cups in our jeep so I filled them with food so we could feed the animals with them and not have to hold to big buckets for them to knock over or try to grab. We had a blast and loved to be able to feed and pet these animals. All the animals did look well cared for. Real animals get dirty and have flys on them. Aka natural setting!!!!! Anyone who loves animals and would love to be just a little closer to see and randomly feed a buffalo, Zebra, cows, emu, pigs lamas etc.
Saw people that came in a pickup truck and that looked like so much fun also. Biggest tip I can give is 1 buy more food then you think. We bought 2 buckets for two of us to share. We totally should have bought 4 2. Save some food for the giraffes. They are close to the end. We went today and it was a complete blast BUT the goats jump on your car doors trying to get food. When I got out of my car both doors are so scratched up I am literally in tears. We tried to buff it out with rubbing compound but they are too deep.
My car was in mint condition until today, I am heart broken. The place really run. The animals are gentle and cute. BrittHatcher 2 contributions. Rude and uninformative Not worth it! I went to Lazy 5 this past May for the first time in ten years.
I thought well I have the day off, so a friend of mine and I went. I didn't remember what it was like at all. I don't see how a place that gets as much business I'm still surprised they do as they do doesn't take debit card. Well, my friend fortunately had enough cash to pay for the both of us and some food. I told my friend IF we ever go back I'm bringing my own food.
All it is is rabbit pellets. The price to get in is overpriced for the time I spent in there and the things I saw. There were no signs anywhere about what the animals were.
Fortunately, I know a lot about different animals so I knew. But if you don't know a lot about animals you will leave wondering what some of them are. How stupid to even offer that!! The only good thing I can say is that I did enjoy the lemur area. That was done well. Not worth my time or money. It's name definitely fits LAZY 5!! Showing results of Jan M 9 contributions. This is a drive-through experience unique to North Carolina. There is no other collection of animals like this in the Southeast.
My daughter was only 2. Now that she's older, we might let her try to feed the animals. The only thing to look out for is animals crowding around your car looking for food and making it difficult to drive by. Amanda P. I wish I could give it no stars.
Only go if you want to teach your kids about animal neglect and cruelty. Facility cited by USDA repeatedly for treatment of animals. Please do not support this facility. I did not realize just how up close and personal we really would get with all of the animals. They have no fear and are eager for a snack. My one year old was squealing with delight and it brought this momma so much joy!
Emus, Ostriches, pigs, antelopes, and llamas surrounded our car within seconds! We had fun throwing the food out the window for them, and even offering them the bucket to help themselves this is how we emptied the first bucket very quickly. Animals come and go while you slowly make your way through the park.
You are free to stop and go as you please to feed and take pictures, but you must remain inside your car the entire time and its encouraged that you pull to the side to allow other cars to pass. Another thing worth mentioning is that we did find a few very minor bumps and scratches on our car after this trip. This is to be expected as some of these animals have horns and antlers and they get very up close and personal with your vehicle.
Just something to keep in mind when visiting in your own car. My husband and I truly had as much fun as my son. When we returned to the park entrance, we noticed all the additional exhibits they have available during normal business hours pre-COVID. There are petting zoos, picnic areas, playgrounds, and many more up-close animal exhibits, as well as the option of the horse-drawn wagon ride through the park! Once they are able to safely open the farm back up to normal capacity, you could easily spend the entire day exploring there!
